The Sussex Brain Bus.. The Project and Us

The Sussex Brain Bus Project and the Team

About The Project

The Sussex Brain Bus is the brainchild of two dementia researchers at the University of Sussex, Sarah King and Claire Lancaster, and local artist Daniel Locke.

With Alzheimer’s Research UK Inspire funding, we ran workshops in the local community to talk about dementia research, start a conversation about how to promote healthy brain ageing, and get inspiration for the messaging and artwork on the bus.

Sarah and Claire then worked on the words and Dan transformed the art from these workshops into the livery you now see on the bus.

About Us

About Dr Sarah KingAbout Dr Sarah King

Dr Sarah King

Sarah, a Reader in Psychology at the University of Sussex, currently splits her time between teaching psychology students about the brain, research and public outreach.

A common theme in her research is to understand how and why our brains are different, based on both our genes and life experiences.

In relation to dementia my lab studies known risk factors for Alzheimer's disease across the lifespan, how they interact and when and what might work to reduce the risk and avoid the onset of dementia.

Claire also works in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex. She is an Alzheimer's Society Research Fellow.

Claire’s research uses brain imaging and cognitive testing to find out how APOE4, a risk gene for Alzheimer's disease, impacts brain function across the lifespan, and whether normalising changes in brain activity in APOE4 carriers might reduce their future risk of dementia.
